Older names still appear in Google results, guest reviews and travel guides, so we’ve put together this guide to explain which property is which—and introduce the wider hospitality family behind Maverick.
From Maverick Hostels Budapest to Maverick City Lodge
You may remember Maverick Hostels Budapest as the collective name for our hostels. Today, our Maverick umbrella brand is called Maverick City Lodge.
Under this name, we bring together four Budapest properties: Maverick Downtown, Maverick Budapest Soho, Maverick Central Market and Maverick Athenaeum.
There’s one detail that can understandably cause confusion: Maverick City Lodge used to be the name of our individual hostel on Kazinczy Street. That property is now Maverick Budapest Soho. Today, Maverick City Lodge refers to the wider Maverick brand.
If an older review recommends “Maverick City Lodge” on Kazinczy Street, it means the property now called Maverick Budapest Soho.

Maverick Hostel & Ensuites is now Maverick Downtown
Our original Maverick Hostel & Ensuites is now Maverick Downtown.
Located at Ferenciek tere 2, this is where many returning guests first got to know Maverick. Its setting in the centre of Budapest puts the Danube and the surrounding downtown streets within easy reach.
If you stayed at Maverick Hostel & Ensuites, saved it for a future trip or found it in an older Budapest travel guide, Maverick Downtown is the name to look for today.
Maverick City Lodge is now Maverick Budapest Soho
The individual hostel previously called Maverick City Lodge is now Maverick Budapest Soho.
You’ll find it at Kazinczy utca 24–26, in Budapest’s lively Jewish Quarter, surrounded by restaurants, ruin bars and places to explore. With both dorms and private rooms, it offers options for travellers who enjoy a social hostel atmosphere and those who prefer their own room.
Fat Mama Eatery is in the same building, making it a convenient place to meet for a meal before heading out into the city.
For returning guests, the distinction is simple: the former Maverick City Lodge hostel on Kazinczy Street is now Maverick Budapest Soho; Maverick City Lodge is now our umbrella brand.
Maverick Urban Lodge is now Maverick Central Market
Maverick Urban Lodge is now Maverick Central Market.
Located at Lónyay utca 31, within walking distance of Budapest’s Great Market Hall, its current name gives guests a useful reference point for the surrounding neighbourhood.
If an older recommendation, review or photograph refers to Maverick Urban Lodge, Maverick Central Market is the property you’re looking for.
Maverick Athenaeum joins the family as our flagship hostel
Alongside these name changes, our collection has grown with Maverick Athenaeum, our largest and flagship hostel.
Set in a historic building at Rákóczi út 54, Budapest 1074, Athenaeum adds another address to the Maverick family, with more space for travellers to stay, meet and explore Budapest together.
Maverick Athenaeum is a separate property within the Maverick City Lodge umbrella brand. It is an addition to Downtown, Budapest Soho and Central Market, rather than a replacement or a new name for any of them.

The Maverick story is also part of a larger hospitality family. Maverick City Lodge, our Maverick umbrella brand, belongs to Lebowski Hospitality Group.
