Sarvari, Dorina 13-10-2022

Are you an always buzzing person? When you travel, you still don't want to sleep long and just lay by the pool? Then I guess you are the person, who would like to explore all details and even more during your abroad stay, and if possible, not just by walking.

If you are into biking, it is your time, as we gathered all the best sights and monuments you can visit rolling!

In the city of Budapest, you can find several spots of the MOL Bubi, which is very easy to use. You can check tips for biking around here: https://mavericklodges.com/en/experience/biking-budapest-bike-routes-tours-cycling-rules

Danube bank

If you have just a few days in the city, we recommend combining visiting touristic places and biking. The mighty Danube riverside has newly refurbished bicycle trails on its both sides, so do not worry about the traffic and riding between cars! The best place to start the route from is the Parliament, naturally. The most spectacular sight of Budapest, you can make a visit inside the house, or just stroll around, there are several good cafes around as well. Then turn south to the direction of the Chain Bridge (which is under renovation right now), and ride next to the Monument of the Shoes, The Hungarian Science Academy, the Széchenyi István square, from where you can see the Basilica if you turn to the left, the Danube Corso with the Vigadó. If you would like to check more monuments, you can just ride forward, and next to the Liberty Bridge you will see the Great Market Hall, where you can refresh with a good coffee or juice. A little more south you will find the so called 'Bálna' shopping complex, where you can switch to ice skates during winter time. At Petőfi bridge, which is the next one coming up, you can ride through to the other side of the river, and go back to see more sights, but now on the Buda side. First you will see the huge building of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, the Gellért Spa and the Gellért Hill. After you will see the Várkert Bazár and the outstanding building of the Castle of Buda. To end the trip, ride back till the Margaret bridge, and before going back to the Parliament, turn left on the middle of the bridge and have an enlighting ride, or just chill at Margaret island.

City Park or Városliget

The park itself had a huge refurbishment in the last years, so if you are not a newbie in Budapest, it is still worth to visit! You can start from Heroes' Square, and ride next to the Műcsarnok, the new Hungarian Music House, the Castle of Vajdahunyad, the BalloonFly, Széchenyi Spa and the Circus and the Zoo. During the ride you can stop by at several restaurants and cafés, such as Zöld Küllő, Anonymous Restaurant, Pántlika, Balloon Bar, Pavilon, Gundel or Robinson restaurant. We recommend trying the Gundel pancake at its original founding place, you will never find better time!

Római-part

If you are still interested in the Danube bank, you can continue to ride northwise on Buda side, until you reach the Római-part. It is a cultic promenade, where you can find several spots for hanging out, and eating the best European hake, with pickled cucumber, or Lángos (potato based dough)!

Lake Naplás

If you travel with kids, you can safely ride to Lake Naplás, which is a little bit suburbian area, next to the 16th district. There is a new trail here as well, and cars are not allowed to enter. You can have some relaxing hours here, with a bunch of exciting flora and fauna, and flourishing nature.

Szentendre

The city is about 20-30 minutes car or 'HÉV' ride away from Budapest, but you can do and see plenty here as well! It is a little jewelry box near to the capital. We recommend strolling around the Danube bank and the Main square, which have a magical atmosphere with those famous colourful lamp shades.

Danube at Ráckeve

The riverside ride on the Pest side can be lengthened too, to reach Ráckeve, which is also around 20-30 minutes from Budapest. You can reach by 'HÉV' as well. The road is going next to the river almost fully. There are lots of cosy piers along the way, where you can stop and chill if your legs get tired.
